The Absolution

“O our Master and Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only Son, the Logos of God the Father; it is You who has broken all the bonds of our sins through Your saving and life-giving sufferings. You breathed on Your saintly disciples and holy apostles, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” You, O our Lord, have also now, through Your holy apostles, granted to those working in priesthood, during every age in Your holy church, to forgive sins on earth, and to tie and loose all the bonds of darkness. We also now ask and implore Your goodness, O Lover of mankind, for the sake of your servant ( … ) and my abject self, we who are bowing with our heads in front of Your holy glory, grant us Your mercy and break all the bonds of our sins. And if we have sinned against You in anything, whether knowingly or unknowingly, by deed or by word, or by a weak heart, You O Master who knows the human weakness, as a good Lover of mankind, please grant us the forgiveness of our sins. Bless us, purify us, absolve us, and absolve your servant ( … ). Fill us with Your fear, cleanse us to do Your holy and good will. For You are our God, and to You is due glory, honor, majesty and worship.”
