Love is the
expression of the very nature of God, for God is love. It is
the secret behind our redemption and salvation. St. Paul considered it
essential to all spiritual gifts and talents; he ranked it at a higher level
than faith and hope. Without love, our practice of any other spiritual
virtue becomes worthless. Review St. Paul’s passage about love in 1st
Corinthians 13. It is the only debt we Christians owe to everyone else. It
is the bond of perfection. St. Peter asks us to have a fervent love for one
another.
